Getting Skin Ready, the foundation of every ZO Skin Health protocol

Cleanse, exfoliate, tone: Getting Skin Ready comes at the start of every ZO Skin Health protocol. This version is the more intensive one and is designed for oily, blemish-prone skin. It does not replace a complete protocol, it lays its foundation.

If your skin tends to react sensitively, the GSR Set Standard is the milder choice.

  1. Cleanse

The Exfoliating Cleanser cleanses thoroughly and dissolves sebum, dirt and make-up residue. The ideal base for oily, blemish-prone skin.

  2. Exfoliate

The Dual Action Scrub combines a physical exfoliant with wax beads and a chemical component, loosens build-up of dead skin cells and clears the pores. Once daily.

  3. Tone

The Oil Control Pads with two percent salicylic acid are the final step: they regulate sebum, clarify and prepare the skin for further care.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is Getting Skin Ready?

Getting Skin Ready, GSR for short, is ZO Skin Health's foundation of cleansing, exfoliating and toning. These steps normalize skin functions and prepare the skin for active ingredients. Every ZO Skin Health protocol builds on it.

What is the difference between the intensive and the standard version?

The intensive version uses the Dual Action Scrub instead of the fine Polish, and the Oil Control Pads with salicylic acid instead of the Complexion Renewal Pads. This makes it tailored to oily, blemish-prone skin.

Who is the set suitable for?

For oily skin prone to shine and blemishes that needs a thorough, clarifying foundation, and as the basis for a targeted routine. If you have pronounced skin problems, please consult your dermatologist.

Can I build a targeted routine on top of it?

Yes, that is exactly what it is designed for. For a specific concern, you add the matching active ingredients, for example from the anti-blemish or pore range. The base stays the same.

Is sun protection included?

No, this set is deliberately preparation only. You should always add sun protection in the morning.

About the brand

ZO Skin Health was developed by Dr. Zein Obagi - one of the world's most renowned dermatologists, with over 35 years of research in Beverly Hills. His principle: the skin is not “repaired” from the outside; instead, the cells themselves are activated. Because collagen, elastin and cell renewal decline with age, ZO products work in a targeted way across different skin layers - as system skincare following established treatment protocols, not as a single product.

How to use

How to use the set

The list below is also the order of application. Stick to it, it is part of how the set works.

It follows the texture, from the lightest to the richest. Light formulas with smaller molecules absorb first; rich textures go on top and would otherwise shield them.

Behind it is always the same pattern. First the preparation: cleansing, exfoliating, toning. Then the active ingredients in the order given. In the morning, sun protection comes last; in the evening, it is left out.

Morning

  1. Exfoliating Cleanser: apply a small amount to damp skin, gently massage in for about a minute, rinse off.
  2. Dual Action Scrub (once daily): massage in a small amount with circular movements until the wax beads have dissolved, rinse off. Exfoliation belongs in the morning.
  3. Oil Control Pads: wipe one whole pad over face and neck.

Evening

  1. Exfoliating Cleanser: as in the morning, a small amount, massage in, rinse off.
  2. Oil Control Pads: wipe one whole pad over face and neck.

Remember to always apply sun protection afterwards in the morning.
