How to find the right moisturiser
Every skin needs moisture. Oily skin too. The difference lies in the texture: oily skin needs light, water-based gels that provide moisture without clogging the pores. Dry skin needs richer creams with lipids that reduce moisture loss across the skin barrier.
The ZO Skin Health Recovery Crème is an all-round moisturiser and proven post-procedure care that supports barrier repair after treatments. It contains meristem cell cultures (plant stem cells) that can promote cell regeneration. The iS Clinical Reparative Moisture Emulsion combines hyaluronic acid with shea butter for intensive moisture supply without a greasy film.
For normal to oily skin, the ZO Skin Health Oil Control Moisturizer is designed - light texture, can regulate sebum production without drying out. The iS Clinical Moisturizing Complex delivers hyaluronic acid and ceramides in a non-comedogenic formula.
For dry and mature skin, the ZO Skin Health Hydrating Crème offers intensive care with shea butter and ceramides. The Colorescience Barrier Pro Essential Moisturizer is specially developed for sensitised skin with a damaged barrier.
A moisturiser comes after serums and before sun protection. In the evening the cream may be richer than in the morning - at night the skin loses more moisture than during the day.
In our skincare studio in Cologne we regularly advise customers who think their skin is dry when it's actually dehydrated. The difference: dry skin lacks lipids (oils), dehydrated skin lacks water. The right assessment decides whether a rich cream or a hyaluronic acid serum is the better choice. Dr. med. Niels Freitag and his team help you with this - free of charge via AI skin analysis or in person.

Frequently asked questions about moisturising care
Does oily skin need a moisturiser too?
Yes. Oily skin produces a lot of sebum, but doesn't automatically have enough moisture. If you skip the cream, you risk the skin producing even more sebum in reaction. The key is the texture: light, water-based gels instead of rich creams.
What's the difference between a moisturiser and a serum?
A serum delivers concentrated actives deep into the skin. A moisturiser seals the surface and protects against moisture loss. Without a cream, the serum's actives evaporate faster.
Which moisturiser for sensitive skin?
For sensitive and sensitised skin, the ZO Recovery Crème and the Colorescience Barrier Pro Essential Moisturizer are suitable. Both are free from fragrances and designed for barrier repair.
The same cream morning and evening?
You can, but you don't have to. Many people use a lighter cream in the morning and a richer one in the evening. With ZO Skin Health, the Daily Power Defense takes on the role of the moisturiser in the morning.
Is a moisturiser enough as sun protection?
No. Even if your moisturiser contains SPF, the amount applied is usually too small for full sun protection. Always apply a separate sun protection as the last step.
