Bakuchiol: For whom the herbal retinol alternative is useful
Bakuchiol is derived from the seeds of the Babchi plant and activates similar pathways in the skin as retinol. Studies have shown comparable improvements in fine lines and pigmentation, but without the adjustment period of flaking and redness.
In our product range, you will usually find bakuchiol in combination with retinol. The mesoestetic Skinretin line (0.3% and 1%) combines retinol with bakuchiol to maintain the effectiveness of retinol while increasing its tolerability. The iS Clinical Retinol+ Emulsion 0.3 uses the same principle.
Dr. Niels Freitag particularly recommends bakuchiol-containing products in three situations: Firstly, for retinol beginners who want to start gently. Secondly, for clients who react to pure retinol with persistent irritation. Thirdly, as an alternative during pregnancy when retinol cannot be used - please still consult a doctor.
