Based on an original ZO Skin Health protocol for skin aging

These seven products are an original ZO Skin Health protocol, here in the version with retinol. We have adopted the manufacturer's selection and added nothing. Why not a single product: skin ageing shows through several processes at once, so the protocol works on them in parallel, structured into preparation, active ingredients and protection.

This set is the more intensive version with retinol. If you don't want the typical initial reactions to retinol, choose the Anti-Aging Set without retinol.

  1. Getting Skin Ready (GSR)

GSR is the foundation of every ZO Skin Health routine: cleanse, exfoliate, tone. GSR normalizes skin functions and prepares the skin so that the following active ingredients are absorbed optimally. Without this preparation, much of the effect is lost.

  2. Activation

Here you get a combination of the best, now with retinol. Daily Power Defense strengthens the skin barrier, 10% Vitamin C Self-Activating works on wrinkles and firmness in the morning, and in the evening Radical Night Repair joins in, ZO Skin Health's high-strength 1% retinol for cell renewal and texture. Retinol is sensitive to light, which is why it is used in the evening. None of these products contains just one active ingredient, each contains a whole range.

  3. Protection

The last step of every ZO Skin Health protocol is protection. The mineral Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 50 protects against UV radiation, the most important accelerator of skin aging. Daily protection is part of every protocol.

Frequently asked questions

Why a set and not the individual products?

Because you get more out of every product and save yourself the research. The seven components are matched in pH, strength and order, just as a balanced diet does more than a single vitamin. You get the complete routine and pay less than buying the products individually.

What makes this set better than a single anti-aging cream?

Most people don't know this: ZO Skin Health fundamentally doesn't work with individual creams but with protocols, meaning fixed sequences in which each product has a task and is matched to the next. A single cream cannot fully reach the skin with its multiple layers, a coordinated system can. This set is exactly the original anti-aging protocol in the retinol version.

What is the difference from the manufacturer's small sets?

The kits ZO Skin Health packages itself are officially intended as a travel and trial format, meaning smaller sizes for on the go. This set contains the same protocol logic in full size, for daily use over weeks. For trying things out, the manufacturer's kits are the way in; for the long-term routine, this set.

How does the application work day to day?

Clear and in three steps: prepare, care, protect. The exact order for morning and evening is right on the page. Retinol is added in the evening as the last step, with nothing on top. Daily use is recommended; if you want to start more gently, use it less often at first.

Is it normal for the skin to react at the beginning?

Yes, and it's even intended. The usual recommendation is to introduce retinol slowly, which is easier on tolerability. The background: redness, light flaking or tightness at the start are a normal adjustment process, the skin is building tolerance. If you want the maximum effect, use it daily following the principle No Reaction No Repair, then tolerance builds faster and the result gets better, and the initial phase is short. If you prefer a gentler approach, use it less often or follow up with the Hydrating Creme.

About the brand

ZO Skin Health was developed by Dr. Zein Obagi - one of the world's most renowned dermatologists, with over 35 years of research in Beverly Hills. His principle: the skin is not “repaired” from the outside; instead, the cells themselves are activated. Because collagen, elastin and cell renewal decline with age, ZO products work in a targeted way across different skin layers - as system skincare following established treatment protocols, not as a single product.

How to use

How to use the set

The list below is also the order of application. Stick to it, it is part of how the set works.

It follows the texture, from the lightest to the richest. Light formulas with smaller molecules absorb first; rich textures go on top and would otherwise shield them.

Behind it is always the same pattern. First the preparation: cleansing, exfoliating, toning. Then the active ingredients in the order given. In the morning, sun protection comes last; in the evening, it is left out.

Morning

  1. Exfoliating Cleanser: apply a small amount to damp skin, gently massage in for about one minute, rinse with lukewarm water.
  2. Exfoliating Polish (two to three times a week): apply a small amount to damp skin, gently massage in, then rinse thoroughly. The polish belongs in the morning.
  3. Complexion Renewal Pads: use a whole pad, do not cut it. Work over face and neck with both sides, actively wiping across the whole skin until nothing is left moist. The last step of Getting Skin Ready.
  4. Daily Power Defense: one to two pumps on face and neck, avoiding the eye area.
  5. 10% Vitamin C Self-Activating: a small amount as the last serum, before sunscreen.
  6. Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 50: apply generously as the last step; reapply every one to two hours when in the sun.

Evening

  1. Exfoliating Cleanser: as in the morning, a small amount, massage in for about one minute, rinse.
  2. Complexion Renewal Pads: one whole pad, actively over face and neck with both sides, until nothing is left moist.
  3. Daily Power Defense: one to two pumps.
  4. Radical Night Repair: a small amount as the last step. Retinol is light-sensitive, so evenings only.

On using retinol: The usual recommendation is to start slowly, mainly for tolerability. The background is that the initial reactions are a normal adjustment process during which the skin builds tolerance. If you want the maximum effect, our recommendation is therefore daily use following the principle No Reaction No Repair: the early reactions are intended, tolerance is reached faster and the result is better, and the initial phase is temporary and short. If you prefer a gentler approach, use it less often or follow up with the Hydrating Creme.

The polish and vitamin C are reserved for the morning.
