Frequently asked questions
What does Triple-Spectrum Protection mean?
Protection on three levels: UVA (skin ageing), UVB (sunburn) and HEV - blue light, as it comes from screens and the sun. Most sunscreens cover only UVA and UVB.
Blue light penetrates deeper into the skin than UV and can promote pigment spots and premature ageing - especially relevant if you work a lot at a screen.
Why mineral instead of chemical?
Mineral filters (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) reflect UV rays like a shield. Chemical filters absorb them and convert them into heat - some people react with irritation, especially with retinol.
This SPF 50 with 12% zinc oxide is a pure barrier. That is why it is ideal if you use retinol-containing products or have sensitive skin. It works immediately (no waiting needed as with chemical filters).
What is blue light and why does it damage the skin?
Blue light (HEV = High Energy Visible Light) comes from the sun AND from screens (phone, computer). It penetrates deeper than UV radiation and can activate melanocytes (pigment cells), so that pigment spots form and oxidative stress arises.
Anyone who sits in front of a screen a lot needs HEV protection just as much as UV protection. The natural melanin in this sunscreen filters exactly this light - very valuable if you are online every day.
How much sunscreen do I need per application?
For face and neck, about a pea-sized amount. Many people apply too little, so that the SPF doesn't work. Mix the amount with a little moisturiser so that it spreads better and doesn't clump.
Apply after serum/vitamin C, 1-2 minutes drying time, then make-up. With retinol use it is a must every morning - the skin is more sensitive to the sun.
Can this sunscreen leave marks on textiles?
Yes, zinc oxide-based sunscreens can leave slight marks on dark fabric. But this is easy to avoid: after applying, wait 2-3 minutes so that the emulsion has fully absorbed. Then a light powder over the top or simply spread it carefully by hand.
Alternatively: apply sunscreen at night and let it dry overnight before you leave the house.
