The most important ingredients

Niacinamide

Vitamin B3 - one of the most versatile actives, working on pores, pigment and the skin barrier.

Vitamin C

The most important water-soluble antioxidant of the skin.

The smallest fruit acid (AHA) - can penetrate especially deep into the skin and loosen dead cells.

Function: Can accelerate skin renewal, ease pigment spots and refine skin texture.

Tranexamic acid

Synthetic amino acid - inhibits pigment formation before it even becomes visible.

Function: Can inhibit melanin production at an early stage and help prevent pigment spots - including hormonal pigmentation.

Frequently asked questions

Which brightening care helps with pigment spots without conventional brighteners and without retinol?

Brightalive Skin Brightener works completely hydroquinone-free and without retinol. Instead, it uses six different brightening actives at the same time: niacinamide, vitamin C, glycolic acid, lactic acid, tranexamic acid and liquorice root extract.

Why six? Because each one acts at a different point in the pigmentation process. Niacinamide inhibits the transport of melanin into the upper skin layers. Glycolic acid and lactic acid dissolve existing discolouration on the surface. Tranexamic acid slows melanin production. Liquorice root soothes at the same time. This is more effective than a product with only one brightening active.

Is Brightalive suitable for pregnancy?

Brightalive contains neither retinol nor conventional brighteners - the two actives that are typically avoided during pregnancy. Can be used morning and evening.

Even so: before using new care products during pregnancy and breastfeeding, please consult your treating doctor.

When will I see first results on pigment spots?

With consistent use morning and evening, expect 4 to 6 weeks.

Pigment spots don't form on the skin surface, but in deeper layers. From there, the pigment migrates upwards layer by layer - and only there can it be removed. This is the natural skin cycle, not a sign of lacking effect. Staying with it pays off.

What does tranexamic acid do in a brightening care?

Tranexamic acid is an active that has been used orally in medicine for years. More recent dermatological research shows that tranexamic acid, applied directly to the skin, can also visibly slow melanin production.

In Brightalive it is one of six brightening actives. While most brightening creams contain only one or two actives, Brightalive uses six different pathways at the same time.

Brightalive or Retinol Skin Brightener - which fits better?

Brightalive is the gentler option: without retinol, usable morning and evening, well tolerated. Ideal for getting started, for sensitive skin or when retinol is not an option.

Retinol Skin Brightener is more intensive and combines brightening with cell renewal. It comes in three strengths (0.25%, 0.5% and 1.0%), so you can increase slowly.

For experienced users: Brightalive morning and evening as the base, plus the Retinol Skin Brightener in the morning, alternating.

About the brand

ZO Skin Health was developed by Dr. Zein Obagi - one of the world's most renowned dermatologists, with over 35 years of research in Beverly Hills. His principle: the skin is not “repaired” from the outside; instead, the cells themselves are activated. Because collagen, elastin and cell renewal decline with age, ZO products work in a targeted way across different skin layers - as system skincare following established treatment protocols, not as a single product.
