Eight products sounds like a lot, but it isn't once you know that this selection comes as a protocol from ZO Skin Health and not from us. We chose one of the manufacturer's protocols and adopted it unchanged. Blemish-prone skin shows several issues side by side, and the protocol addresses them in three stages: preparation, active ingredients, protection.

This set works without retinol. For a stronger version, choose the Retinol Anti-Blemish Set.

  1. Getting Skin Ready (GSR)

    Getting Skin Ready is the foundation of every ZO Skin Health routine: cleanse, exfoliate, tone. For oily, blemish-prone skin in the intensive version with Dual Action Scrub and oil-regulating pads. GSR normalises skin functions and prepares the skin for the active ingredients.

  2. Activation

    This is where the best comes together. Complexion Clarifying Serum reduces excess sebum and clarifies, Daily Power Defense strengthens the skin barrier, and the Complexion Clearing Masque draws sebum and keratin build-up out of the pores twice a week. None of these products contains just one active ingredient; each contains a whole blend.

  3. Protection

    The last step of every ZO Skin Health protocol is protection. The mineral Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 50 protects against UV radiation. For blemish-prone skin in particular, light, mattifying protection is the right choice.

What makes this set better than a single product for blemishes?

Most people don't know this: ZO Skin Health generally doesn't work with individual creams but with protocols, meaning fixed sequences in which each product has a task. How does the application work day to day?

Clear and in three steps: intensive preparation, care, protection. The exact order for morning and evening is shown right on the page, and the mask and exfoliation days are marked. In everyday use, that takes just a few minutes a day.

How quickly can you see results?

A more matte, calmer complexion often shows after just one to two weeks. Skin renews itself in cycles of about six weeks, a lastingly clearer complexion takes three to four cycles of consistent use.

How to use

How to use the set

The list below is also the order of application. Stick to it, it is part of how the set works.

It follows the texture, from the lightest to the richest. Light formulas with smaller molecules absorb first; rich textures go on top and would otherwise shield them.

Behind it is always the same pattern. First the preparation: cleansing, exfoliating, toning. Then the active ingredients in the order given. In the morning, sun protection comes last; in the evening, it is left out.

Morning

  1. Exfoliating Cleanser: apply a small amount to damp skin, massage in gently for about one minute, rinse.
  2. Dual Action Scrub (once daily): massage a small amount in circular motions until the wax beads have dissolved, then rinse. The scrub belongs in the morning.
  3. Oil Control Pads: one whole pad over face and neck, the last step of Getting Skin Ready.
  4. Complexion Clarifying Serum: a small amount, spread evenly.
  5. Daily Power Defense: one to two pumps, avoiding the eye area.
  6. Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 50: apply generously as the last step; in the sun, reapply every one to two hours.

Evening

  1. Exfoliating Cleanser: as in the morning, a small amount, massage in, rinse.
  2. Oil Control Pads: one whole pad over face and neck.
  3. Complexion Clarifying Serum: spread a small amount evenly.
  4. Daily Power Defense: one to two pumps.

Twice a week in the evening, the Complexion Clearing Masque: apply a thin layer to cleansed skin, avoiding the eye area, leave on for ten to fifteen minutes, then rinse. On other evenings, use the Enzymatic Peel once or twice a week as an additional exfoliant, in a thin layer, for one to three hours or overnight. The Dual Action Scrub stays reserved for the morning.

Notes on application

Contains salicylic acid (BHA). May increase photosensitivity - use daily sunscreen. Do not apply to open wounds or inflamed skin. Not suitable for children under 3 years. Do not use if known hypersensitivity to salicylates.
Contains alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) and/or beta hydroxy acids (BHA) which may increase skin photosensitivity. Use sunscreen, limit sun exposure and wear protective clothing - during use and for one week afterwards.
Contains small amounts of vitamin A compounds (retinyl palmitate). Consult a doctor before use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Daytime sunscreen with at least SPF 30 recommended. For external use only.
Contains sulphur. Test on a small area before wide application on sensitive skin. Avoid eye contact.
