Why we combine retinol with a safety net

Our pairing of retinol and calming care, here in the strongest version. You should already have some experience with retinol. In the first weeks, retinol can cause dryness, flaking or a slight feeling of tightness. This is a normal initial reaction and depends on the dose. That is exactly what the second product in the duo is for. People who have both together are less likely to give up.

For a gentler start, choose the anti-aging version or the brightening version.

  1. High-potency retinol

Wrinkle + Texture Repair is a high-strength retinol that works intensively on lines and texture. Retinol is sensitive to light, so use it in the evening.

  2. Lifeline

Hydrating Creme cushions initial reactions such as tightness or flaking, provides moisture and strengthens the barrier without slowing down the effect.

  3. How to combine both

In the evening after cleansing, a small amount of Wrinkle + Texture Repair. If reactions occur, apply a small amount of Hydrating Creme on top or the next morning.

Frequently asked questions

What is the second cream next to the retinol for?

Because high-potency retinol can cause noticeable irritation at the start. The Hydrating Creme cushions tightness or flaking and provides moisture without slowing down the effect. With the strongest retinol in particular, this safety net is valuable.

Who is this duo suitable for?

For anyone who already has experience with retinol and is looking for the strongest effect on texture. For a first introduction to retinol, a milder version is better. Retinol is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

How often should I use it?

Daily for the maximum effect, following the principle No Reaction No Repair. If you want to soften the reactions, start with two to three evenings a week and follow up with the Hydrating Creme. Always use sun protection during the day.

Does the duo make a good gift?

Yes. Two coordinated products in a high-quality combination, with clear instructions. A considered gift for anyone who appreciates good skincare.

About the brand

ZO Skin Health was developed by Dr. Zein Obagi - one of the world's most renowned dermatologists, with over 35 years of research in Beverly Hills. His principle: the skin is not “repaired” from the outside; instead, the cells themselves are activated. Because collagen, elastin and cell renewal decline with age, ZO products work in a targeted way across different skin layers - as system skincare following established treatment protocols, not as a single product.

How to use

How to use the set

The list below is also the order of application. Stick to it, it is part of how the set works.

It follows the texture, from the lightest to the richest. Light formulas with smaller molecules absorb first; rich textures go on top and would otherwise shield them.

Behind it is always the same pattern. First the preparation: cleansing, exfoliating, toning. Then the active ingredients in the order given. In the morning, sun protection comes last; in the evening, it is left out.

Evening

  1. Wrinkle + Texture Repair: a small amount onto cleansed skin as the last active ingredient. Retinol is sensitive to light, so only use it in the evening.
  2. Hydrating Creme: if your skin feels tight or flaky, apply a small amount on top, otherwise as needed.

On using retinol: For maximum effect, use it daily according to the principle No Reaction No Repair, if you prefer a gentler approach, start with two to three evenings a week and increase as tolerated. The Hydrating Creme cushions reactions. Always use sun protection during the day. Retinol is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
